I thought it would be fun to do another LOVE photo contest. I really enjoy getting to see other people's images for a change! ;-)

The deets:

- Submit photos that somehow represent LOVE. Get creative! It can be a literal interpretation or you can just have fun with the idea of love. Love for people...love for things...love for life!

- Amateurs only! If you make $ from your photographic talents, this isn't the contest for you. :-P

- You must be the rightful owner of any submitted photo. (i.e. YOU pulled the trigger!)

- You may submit 1-2 images by email to sarah@rimelphoto.com (subject: LOVE photo contest). Feel free to include background/details to accompany your entries. I like reading the stories behind the photos.

- Deadline: February 24th, 2010...let's say midnight to be all official and what not.

WHAT DO YOU WIN???

I'm feeling super generous, so the owner of THE WINNING IMAGE WILL RECEIVE A COMPLIMENTARY PORTRAIT SESSION!!! Woo hoo!

Session must take place in the KC area. ($150 value)

So if you would like a free portrait session this spring, bust out your camera and capture some LOVE! :-)

I Have Arrived!

Okay, that may be a little dramatic. I haven't exactly "arrived." ;-)
But I have been published for the first time! Woo hoo!
Back in October, I was commissioned by CURE Magazine to create a few environmental portraits of an oncology nurse with one of her patients. The magazine was putting together a book to honor "extraordinary healers" nominated through essays by cancer patients. One of the nominated oncology nurses (Linda) is located here in KC and I was lucky enough to be hired to photograph her with her patient (Patricia). I found both women to be quite extraordinary; I really enjoyed our brief time together creating these portraits.

Anyways, I just received a copy of the book and needless to say I'm very excited! It's really neat to see the finished product. Patricia's essay is amazing and was one of three finalists! So cheers to Linda & Patricia!

A few pics of the book...

Cans for Comments...

Early this past week I came across a Cans for Comments post on another photographer's blog...the amazing Anne Ruthmann. I believe the idea started with Chris + Lynn. I absolutely love the idea! There are so many great things about it.

First of all, I absolutely love getting comments on the blog. Feedback is great and it's nice to know somebody is out there and my words and pictures aren't disappearing into a vacuum. :-P But having those comments go towards a greater good...in this case, a donation of food to those who are in need...that's an amazing thing to be a part of. The current economic situation is impacting food pantries across the country, including local food pantries her in the KC area.

I will be making my donation to the Community Services League here in Independence. I plan on having Maddox help me purchase and deliver the food. With all of the commercialism that comes along with Christmas...it will be a great opportunity for him to get out of his sheltered little bubble and experience something more in keeping with the real spirit of the holidays. :-)

cans 01

So, here's how it works...you leave comments, I donate cans! Easy! Simple! :-)

I WILL DONATE 1 CAN (OR FOOD ITEM) FOR EVERY COMMENT LEFT ON THIS BLOG THROUGH SUNDAY 12/21/08!

So PLEASE leave a comment! You can comment on this post, maybe check out the articles (links above) and leave your thoughts on this situation. Or scroll down and enjoy some pictures, and leave a comment about your favorites. I will try to find some fun things to post this week to prompt your participation and feedback, giving you a reason to come back and leave more comments! Then next Monday, I will tally and post the results.

And even better, please forward this blog post on to your friends and family encouraging them to leave a comment as well.

Thanks!

Thanksgiving Fun WINNER!

Wow...quite the turnout. ;-)

Thank you to Allison, Jennifer, and Renee who took a moment to participate in the little contest. All three ladies were entered into the drawing for a Target gift certificate! I let Maddox do the honors, drawing a name from a bowl. And the winner is...

Renee! Renee emailed me this picture from her Thanksgiving...soon to become garlic mashed potatoes. That sounds delicious. :-)

Congratulations Renee!

However, with only two runner ups...I'm sure I have a little somethin' somethin' for Allison and Jennifer as well. So everyone's a winner! Yeah!

Thanksgiving Fun...

Well, it is that time of year again. Time to reflect on all of wonderful people and things that bless our lives. And time to stuff our faces with tons of food until we are miserable. :-P

In fact, this is probably my favorite Thanksgiving picture I have ever taken. This was quite a few years ago, I had to go digging in the archives. This was even back when I shot film. FILM! ;-) I call it "Thanksgiving Stupor" - shot shortly after completing our Thanksgiving meal that year at Jay's grandma's house.

thanksgiving 01

So I think we should have a contest. It has been a LONG time! You can enter two ways...

1) In the comments section below, tell me what you are thankful for. (Make sure you leave at least your first name.)
AND/OR
2) Send me a photo that YOU have taken that makes you think of Thanksgiving or perhaps who/what you are thankful for.

Leave your comment here or email your image to me at contest@rimelphoto.com by Friday at noon. Everyone who participates will be entered into a drawing to win a gift certificate to Target...great for holiday shopping. ;-)

Oh, how I love Target. I am definitely thankful for Target! :-)

And just for fun, make sure you vote in the Thanksgiving poll....

Wishing you a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
